Frequently Asked Questions

What are the services you offer?

ADHD Assessment, diagnosis, medication initiation and management, psychoeducation, and referrals for additional supports like coaching or therapy.

Do you take telehealth appointments?

No, Clear Focus is a GP based, face to face, adult ADHD service. In person appointments are the gold standard, and part of the assessment may include physical examinations, blood tests and ECGs.

Is a referral needed?

No. Self referrals are welcome. Referrals from allied health, GPs, or any of your established health care team are also welcome, and a medical summary from your GP would be very helpful to bring with you or have sent across.

If an individual already has a diagnosis can we get continued care and medication here?

We are more than happy to continue care. We will require the specialist’s diagnosis letter and their details.

How many appointments are required to obtain a diagnosis?

The initial assessment process is completed over two (2) appointments, both 30 minutes each, with a few weeks in between to complete assessments, investigations and gather evidence.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

Referral letters if you have them, a medical summary letter from your GP, previous diagnosis letters from your psychologist, psychiatrist, paediatrician, if you have it, or any other documents to summarise your previous medical or mental health history.

What are the costs for this service?

The initial appointment is to determine assessment, diagnosis, and treatment initiation. Each appointment is 30 minutes in duration and most patients require two (2) appointments. If there are complexities, more appointments may be required. Each 30 minute appointment is billed at $350. A medicare rebate is available in the sum of $84.90.

Do you prescribe medications to everyone?

No, not necessarily. During the assessment process the severity of symptoms will be determined, as well as the breadth of symptoms and impact on function. Some patients who are highly functioning or have mild symptoms may only require coaching or advice around strategy implementation.

Is there a discount for concession card holders?

The private fee amount is the same regardless of whether the patient is a concession card holder or not.

Do you see 16 year olds transitioning from paediatric care?

Yes.

What are the wait times?

We endeavour to be accessible to patients who require our services. We aim to see you for an initial assessment within 2-4 weeks.
